AFFAIR OF THE NECKLACE - PREVIEW - This complex story of political intrigue, scandal and decadence amidst the opulence of the court of Versailles is based on actual historical events -- events which contributed to the downfall of the French monarchy. The costumes and environs of the Ancient Regime are as sumptuous as you would hope, and Versailles comes alive with the recreated events. My theme wallpaper features the mutually infatuated con artists Jeanne de la Motte (Hilary Swank) and Retaux de Villette (Simon Baker)during a candlelit ball, with desktop color scheme reflecting the pastel colors of their ornate evening clothes. Sound files include film dialogue, the unusual theme song (that's Alanis Morrisette singing in Hungarian), and the queen’s stage rendition of “Plasir D’Amour,” beautifully performed by Moira Smiley. Special thanks once again to Celia at Martin's Eclectic for darling animations, and to Web of Dreams for decorative button icons. I've done something a little different this time and included an animated screensaver along with the packaged theme – a fun image of Joely Richardson as Marie Antoinette on stage, showered with twinkling diamonds, lol. Let them eat cake!

AGE OF INNOCENCE - PREVIEW - Every time I watch this film again I pick up some little nuance that I missed during my previous viewings. The intricate and heartwrenching story, superbly detailed art design and costumes, and evocative performances from Winona Ryder, Michelle Pfeiffer and Daniel Day-Lewis keep me coming back for more. My wallpaper features a romantic, yet tense moment between May and Newland in the Florida garden. I chose it as much for the beautiful backdrop as I did for the characters, because the settings, and even flowers, play an important part in this story. I've added movie dialogue, and the music bits include Elmer Bernstein's memorable opening theme, Enya's gentle "Marble Halls," and a snippet from Strauss' "Emperor's Waltz." Special thanks to Ilona at ilicon for her flower icons, and to Celia at Martin's Eclectic for her "Flower Show" animated cursor. Matching screensaver available on my screensavers page.

AMADEUS- PREVIEW - I love this film about the amazingly gifted Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his jealous musical rival, Antonio Salieri. The story is set in the extravagant 18th century Viennese court of Emperor Joseph II, and the film contains all the music, mystery and magnificence you could ever want in a good costume flick! I've included sound samples of Mozart's work throughout the theme, including Requiem, Symphonies No. 25 and 29 and Piano Concerto in E Flat, as well as my own original icons and screensaver (available on my screensaver page). Special thanks to Jane at The Tom Hulce Ultimate Webpage for lovely wallpaper and logo screen images.

CLEOPATRA - PREVIEW - This infamous movie has been called everything from "Camp Classic" to Oscar-winning, from Fox's Flop to epic costume filmmaking! I absolutely love this film, whatever its faults or accomplishments; it IS an epic of costume filmmaking, and the 2,000 year old story of Julius Caesar, Marc Anthony and Cleopatra VII is as timeless and fascinating as ever. My theme features a rather splashy wallpaper of Cleopatra VII (portrayed by a young and gorgeous Elizabeth Taylor) as she enters Rome in all her glory to meet Caesar. Color scheme is black and gold, and sound snippets include film dialogue and bits of the terrific musical soundtrack. Special thanks to Lyle at Zapaticons for the fun Egyptian icons, and to the mystery author of the "Eye of Horus" animated cursor. Matching screensaver available on my screensaver page.

DANGEROUS BEAUTY- PREVIEW - This is one of those films I passed by at least a dozen times at the video store, then one day finally decided to rent it. Wow! Catherine McCormack stars in this true story of a Renaissance-era woman, Veronica Franco, whose circumstances of birth and limited options force her into the life of a Venetian courtesan. My theme features photo icons and cursors, film music and dialogue, and a wallpaper photo of Veronica as she challenges a jealous would-be lover to a duel. Matching screensaver available on my screensaver page.

GLADIATOR - ELYSIUM - PREVIEW - In the words of film director Ridley Scott, "Gladiator" is about recreating a world; in this case, the world is that of the ancient Roman Empire at its zenith. The film chronicles the journey of one idealistic Roman army general, convincingly portrayed by superb Aussie actor Russell Crowe. Although the combats and entertainments of ancient Rome are accurately depicted in this film, my theme focuses instead on the idealism and promise of an afterlife -- Elysium. Theme includes sound samples of film music and dialogue, original wallpaper, icons, cursors and logo screens, and a bluish gray color scheme. Matching screensaver available on my Screensavers page.

GONE WITH THE WIND- PREVIEW - Not only is this my all time favorite costume movie, it's my all time favorite movie, period. My theme features a lovely wallpaper photo of Rhett and Scarlett just after he presents her with the green bonnet, a peach and gray color scheme, some cute animated Rhett and Scarlett cursors, and of course, some classic utterances from both Rhett and Scarlett as sound events. I also included startup, wait and shutdown logo screens with photos from the red dress scene, the staircase scene, and Rhett's final departure. The music theme from Tara serves as the start-up sound. Matching screensaver available on my screensavers page.

GONE WITH THE WIND - GOOD TO ME - PREVIEW - If any movie deserves more than one theme, it’s certainly my fave, GWTW. My latest creation captures a moment in the story, albeit a brief one, when Scarlett and Rhett are actually smiling and happy with one another! Let’s face it, the overall story is a sad one, and the love triangle between Scarlett, Rhett and Ashley contributes to that tone. So, I decided to focus my theme on a brief moment of happiness between the two main characters. Sound events feature dialogue from this scene at Tara, as well as snippets from the upbeat Tara and Mammy musical themes. Animated cursors feature the many changing faces of Scarlett, while the static cursors and window color scheme reflect the background colors of the wallpaper. Startup/Wait/Shutdown screens feature the riverboat honeymoon scene, the night of Kennedy’s death, and Scarlett’s farewell to Melanie.

LAST OF THE MOHICANS - PREVIEW - This theme features a wallpaper collage of film scenes against a backdrop of misty blue mountains and forest, plus original icons, cursors and logo screens. I used larger music files here than I normally would, (longer running times and joint stereo quality) because as anyone who has seen the film knows, the soundtrack is wonderful and an integral part of the movie. I've included snippets from the full instrumental opening theme, the haunting "I Will Find You" by Clannad, the Gaelic fiddle and plenty of film dialogue. Matching screensaver available on my screensavers page.

MASTER & COMMANDER FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD - PREVIEW - The realism of this movie is phenomenal, and probably as close to what life was like aboard ship back then as we’ve ever seen on film. No starched uniforms and curly locks here; it’s rumpled clothing, disheveled hair, splintered decks, bouts of drunkeness and numerous wounds. My theme features original wallpaper, logo screens and photo icons, plus some nice fluttering Union Jack cursors from Dierk. Sounds feature both violin and drum pieces, along with plenty of Russell Crowe issuing shipboard commands in that thrilling Devonshire accent that he has down pat. Need even more Captain Aubrey and crew? Visit my screensaver page for matching screensaver. MASTER & COMMANDER FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD XP BOOT SCREEN
MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY - PREVIEW - This film about the famous 18th century mutiny is visually stunning, with intense performaces from Anthony Hopkins as Captain Bligh, a young Mel Gibson as Fletcher Christian, and Daniel Day-Lewis as Mr. Friar. Said to be the most historically accurate of all the film versions, it is careful to point out that both Bligh and Christian, as well as the intoxicating atmosphere of Tahiti itself, contribute to the events which lead to the high seas revolt. My theme features a collage of film scenes and a blue/green color scheme against the backdrop of the island channel, plus film dialogue, music, logo screens and photo icons and cursors.

SCARLET PIMPERNEL - ENCHANTED - PREVIEW - This 1982 BBC version of "The Scarlet Pimpernel" is one of my all time favorite romance films. Set during the terror of the French Revolution, English aristocrat Sir Percy Blakeney masks his identity as the heroic rescuer of would-be guillotine victims with an effeminate and amusing public persona. This theme captures the moment when a little crack in the persona is revealed, as Sir Percy confesses his love for celebrated French actress Marguerite St. Just at her soiree. Theme includes original wallpaper, movie dialogue, photo icons and cursors, and a soft orange and gold color scheme. Startup, wait and shudown screens feature additional scenes from the soiree.

SCARLET PIMPERNEL - REUNITED - PREVIEW - Another theme from the 1982 film, this time featuring my favorite scene in the movie: Marguerite has figured it all out and come to France to rescue Percy! Naturally I included the very romantic moment of reunion as my wallpaper (*grin*), as well as some of the intimate words of forgiveness and love as sound events (*sigh*). Color scheme is light tan, cream and green, with photo icons and cursors. Startup, wait and shutdown screens include additional scenes from the castle prison.

SCARLET PIMPERNEL- PARIS - PREVIEW
- Pimpernel enhancements are like chocolate to me; there's no such thing as too much (*grin*). In that spirit, and for all you Anthony Andrews fans out there, here is my third SP theme - all Anthony, all Pimpernel, in Paris. Sound events include some of his classic lines, and photo icons and cursors feature Percy at his heroic best. Startup/wait/shutdown screens capture the moment he reveals his identity to Armand, his attempted escape from Chauvelin, and the League's planning scene.

SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET - PREVIEW - Although this movie may not come to mind when you think "costume film," the colorful Tibetan folk clothes and even the early 20th century style mountain gear qualify it in my book. This story of an Austrian man's friendship with the Dalai Lama is magnificent and inspiring, with all the allure of a forbidden city and mysterious culture. Theme wallpaper features the ever-beautiful Brad Pitt as mountain climber Heinrich Herrer, quizzing the young Dalai Lama during a friendly geography lesson. Special thanks once again to Zapaticons for fabulous Tibetan icons, and to the mystery author of the Tibetan flag cursor. Sound samples include theme music, dialogue and plenty of Tibetan chant, horn and yes, gong. Logo screens are included, and there is a matching screensaver on my screensaver page. SOMEWHERE IN TIME - PREVIEW - Several of my site visitors e-mailed me and recommended this film, so I decided to check it out. I’ll admit that I watched it twice and was still unsure how I felt about the story and the characters, but the concept of time travel was so irresistible to me that I just had to make this theme. The movie was filmed at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, a lovely turn of the century resort, and it does provide a beautiful backdrop for the story. My theme features the famous gazebo scene – Richard Collier (Christopher Reeve) has traveled back in time to 1912 and is showing Elise (Jane Seymour) the watch that she herself gave him as a dying, elderly woman in 1972. (Oooooo…..don’t you just love all those time travel conundrums??) The theme also includes an animated lighthouse cursor, and icons of the pocketwatch and real Mackinac Island lighthouse, as well as snippets from the John Barry film soundtrack and original logo screens.
